A new video entitled "Exploring ocean careers with old fourlegs" was
handed over to the National Ports Authority (NPA) by ACEP and the Delta
Foundation at a formal function at the Port Elizabeth Harbour.
L-R : Twiggy Nyaumwe (Port of Port Elizabeth Corporate Affairs
Manager),
Dr Tony Ribbink (ACEP), Ester Goosen (Port of Port Elizabeth
Port Manager) and
Paula du Plooy (Delta Foundation) after the media
launch of the marine careers educational video.
The video showcases various careers in marine environment, including
those on board research vessels as well as careers in the different
sciences - physical, chemical and biology. The video, which features
NPA employees who are experts in their respective fields, is already
being distributed to schools throughout the country. It will also be
made available to partner countries.
"The port of Port Elizabeth is very excited about the prospects of this
campaign. We trust that the information on the video will assist our
youth in making wise and informed decisions about their future
careers," says Twiggy Nyaumwe, corporate affairs manager at the Port of
Port Elizabeth.
We look forward to seeing this film on television, as environmental
educator Karen Binning and Berny Snow are currently negotiating with
local broadcasters DSTV and SABC.
The video was launched as part of this year's National Marine Week
Celebrations on Monday 18 October 2004 at the Port of Port Elizabeth.
